Redesign the current blog template into a more personal design that reflected the client’s style and content.

Using a preexisting template, I modified the layout using CSS. Using Photoshop and Illustrator, I created the background and header and integrated both into the layout.

Project Goals:

Create a website where potential interior design clients can quickly receive advice about their spaces for one dollar.

Have a form where clients can ask design questions and upload photos of the areas they would like to have designed.

Have a simple shopping cart for customers to purchase design advice.

Solution:

The goals for this project were realized with a two page website. Visually, I created a colorful layout to attract the attention of the client’s bohemian-style seeking customers. The main page includes a few images of Amanda’s design style and bio as a brief introduction to the work she provides. A description and button prompts the user to purchase design advice for one dollar. Once this is completed, the second page consists of a form for customers to fill out about the space they would like designed. A photo can also be uploaded and attached to the email. This information is then sent to Amanda for response.

Overall, the major goals of this project were realized with an attractive design and straightforward user experience. I utilized Photoshop for the design and XHTML, CSS, and PHP inside Dreamweaver to build the site.

Project Goals:

Redesign the current site into a cleaner, more user friendly layout.

Integrate the current blog into the site.

Integrate multimedia components.

Creatively display the large amount of content.

Solution:

The first step in this project was to redesign the overall layout. Originally the site was 800 pixel wide layout with an all orange background and a side navigation. I designed the new site with an orange background only in the upper portion to keep it from becoming too overwhelming for viewers and created a wider, cleaner, more focused look overall. One major challenge for this site was to creatively display the large amounts of written content without cluttering up the layout. I turned to Spry components in Dreamweaver as a solution. I used roll over tool tips and accordion tabs to accommodate the information; customizing the components with CSS so that they seamlessly integrated with all the other site content. The end result was a much cleaner looking site.

Another part of this project was to integrate the client’s existing blog; they used Blogger. Inside, I customized the layout using CSS so it also matched the style of the new design for Premiere Surgical. Using the 3rd party widget provided by rssinclude.com I was able to project summaries of the recent blog posts onto the homepage. Again I used my CSS knowledge to make the integration visually seamless.

In summary, the project was successfully completed with a new design, integration of videos and rss feeds, and a straightforward view of the content. I used Photoshop for the design, XHTML, CSS, and Spry Components in Dreamweaver for the site build, CSS in Blogger for the blog customization, and an RssInclude Box widget, also customized with CSS.
